Okay so this book was pretty awesome, not what I expected from it but still awesome none the less. I read something about this book that I agree with, and that in a way its almost prequel like. There's a lot of build up to Lada and who she becomes. I found myself always waiting for a specific part in my head I thought would happen but it didn't really come about like that. so while I really enjoyed the story and I am really excited for the next one what I was expecting didn't really happen until the end/leading up into the next book I think. But because of all this build up and back story it will make it so much better so fair trade I think. 

General comments:

I did enjoy this book I think it was very well done I don't think the next book would have been the same were it not for this one. The story definitely needed time to build up and really learn the characters the location and time.

Characters:

Lada is hard. she is wild and untamed almost but sometimes inside we glimpse this almost vulnerable side she rarely if ever shows. She isn't the perfect beautiful heroine. She does what she has to do to survive in a mans world at the time, she does what she has to to be liked by her father. I liked watching her grow and her figuring out what it takes to survive and the different types of strength and fight there is in a women. I like watching her thought process and how some of her actions may come off harsh to her brother but there's a reason why.
The characters in this story were well written and tangible they became real people to me and I liked that.

World building:

for not really being familiar with this time or location or any of its historical info I think this was well done it felt like I was actually brought there. I am not religious in any way but there was a fair amount of it in this book I thought it was nicely done it became apart of the characters identity in a way and contributed to the story.

I would recommend this book I think when its all said and done it will be a great series I hope to see Lada become even more bad ass and legendary I think that's what I want to see the most in the next books I want to read about the reason why Vlad the impaler became such a story. I want that translation to come over into this version of the book with a female lead. I want a story where a female is just brutal and that's who she is and doesn't become soft and have romance in the way. That's what I'm hoping for in the next book at least so fingers crossed!
