Ive always liked Rick Riordan's books I find them funny and charming, if you've read any of his books before you know what you will be getting with this one. The sword of Summer focuses more on family and friendship then anything romantic so far. The descriptions of Valhalla were pretty cool yet comical in a way, there was always a sarcastic undertone with Magnus Chase.
Characters
The characters are diverse and each have grown into their own personalities, Magnus Chase is sarcastic and brave even though he isn't "the best of the best". Theres a lot of good little metaphors and good messages in this book.
World Building
I can see it geared for younger kids but I'm 23 and still enjoyed it, it was fun to get away from reality and just read something fun and adventurous but not so serious? light hearted adventure with lots of sarcastic selfish gods and kids battling the odds. There was a fair amount of world building with lots of information about norse gods. I think it was a good start it could definitely get deeper, I would like to see some overlap of Magnus chase's world with Annabeth's, its always cool to read your favourite characters from another book with new characters in a new book.
It was a fun read! Can't wait for the next one! and I will definitely be reading it when it comes out.
