General Comments
I enjoyed this read there wasn't some kind of insta love which was great although there was instant attraction between the love interests. Each character was interesting in their own rights, the Princess Aerity reluctantly gives up her opportunity to find her own love on her own time as her parents wanted her to have and puts the kingdom first by offering her hand in marriage to the man who kills the beast. On top of the beast issue there is an underlying issue of the treatment of people who can do magic,They are called the Lashed its hated and feared. there are old laws forbidding its use and this leaves a lot of problems for multiple reasons. I am interested in the next book to see how this all becomes resolved.
Characters
I liked our main character, Princess Aerity I think she has a strong head on her shoulders and isn't dumb. She steps up in her role and despite what she wants or who she wants she acts like a future Queen should and keeps her peoples needs first. It was refreshing to read a character who doesn't some how exactly get her way to get a magical happy ever after, it felt real in the way that. I got slightly annoyed with our male main character at times Paxton he was very stubborn and sometimes rude, but we learn why eventually why he is the way he is. The characters were individual and I think were well written.
World Building
We get a sense of the kingdom when the hunters are mapping out where to go, we get to know it fairly well the focus stays in this kingdom although other kingdoms are talked about and other people from other kingdoms are in the story, I think the next book will definitely bring us to new locations which will be interesting. We get a glimpse at the history of the kingdoms and the hatred to those who can do magic called the Lashed, because they get markings on their nails like lashes. We learn why they are hated and It's becoming more of a social justice issue within the book in the hating of the lashed vs the unlashed, It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Can't wait for the next book!
I recived this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
