The Young Elites by Marie Lu

4.5 Stars

Adelina has abilities that shouldn’t belong in this world. A vengeful blackness in her heart. And a desire to destroy all who dare to cross her. We go through this book watching Adelina battling her darkness and follow along as we watch the kingdoms deal with the people affected by the blood fever years ago and the abilities that surfaced after that. This book is definitely a must read!

General Comments

I was skeptical about this book at first, I kept coming back to it and put off reading it but I'm glad I did. Adelina Amouteru is our main character and I found her to be very interesting she seems like a girl treading water ready to drown in darkness, you feel it in her throughout the book, this is the way her power or magic shows up as. The kids with these powers are called The Young Elites there is this fear and hatred towards people with these kinds of markings or abilities, so it becomes this battle to not be so feared to change the kingdoms for the better. as well as watching Adelina deal with her past and who she is and who she wants to be.

Characters

While this goes on we watch Adelina Struggle with her secrets and this frustrates me, I hate lying in books, when you can see the chaos and conflict it will cause later on and you are just screaming for the character to spill it already. But I also can see why she kept her secrets so Im conflicted because she doesn't have a reason to really trust anyone, no one has ever really shown her kindness since she became ill. I think Adelina was a really unique character she has this darkness in her that she's only really beginning to see and understand and Im really excited to see how she deals with this as well as the issues happening around her.

World Building

The world building is great we get a history on the "blood fever" and how different kingdoms were affected, it becomes a lot about political issues and a battle for the throne where the fates will decide on what happens to anyone affected by the blood fever. I can't wait to read more and see how it expands.
