Cage of Deceit by Jennifer Anne Davis

5 stars

AHH! this book had me screaming with excitement at the end I didn’t want it to end, I was even warned in the very beginning..
“ Cage of Deceit is the first book in a series. Therefore, if you expect a happily ever after and a neat, tidy wrap up at the end of this book, you will be disappointed. Because I enjoy leaving people hanging from cliffs. If you have the spirt of an adventurer, flip this page. ~I DARE YOU~ after all, embarking on a tumultuous journey is far more rewarding in the end. By turning the page, you understand that you are entering book one of the series Reign of Secrets and anything can happen.”

General Comments

When you start a book with a warning like that its just begging you to read it. This book had me on my toes from the very start, it has royalty, intrigue, lies, desperation. And a young woman who is trying to figure out her place as a future empress with war and expectations baring down on her. I LOVED this book! I went into it only knowing I love this Authors work and I was rewarded with a great story I couldn’t put down until it was done.

Characters

I think the characters were beautifully written, With the Royal Family we actually see a family. They balanced between being rulers of their country and a loving mother and father and that was definitely refreshing to see. Our main character Allyssa was well written she was stubborn and loyal to almost a fault but it only reflected positively on her personality.

World Building

Beautiful world building, we get a glimpse at the size of the empire with the mention of all the surrounding kingdoms and landscapes. And through Allyssa’s nighttime adventures we get a sense of the kingdom she lives in. Since there is so much happening throughout the book though I don’t feel like we really get to know any of the locations so much. More just the characters, but thats really just a non complaint.

Overall I throughly enjoyed this book! I am so excited for the next one its going on my to read list asap! Easy 5 out of 5 starts for me.

I received this book as an ARC from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
