If I could give this book more then 5 stars I would but then where would it end. I know for a lot of book lovers it's hard to name your top choice favourite books, but I have to say this is in my top 3 favourite series ever. Thats saying a lot!
Outlander is a wonderful story starting off at the end of the war in 1945 with Claire Randall and her husband Frank Randall reuniting after both serving in the army as a nurse and officer. They are going on a second honeymoon to re connect in the Scottish highlands and thats where fate intervenes and Claire steps through standing stones to the year 1743. We get to watch (or read I should say) this woman's brilliance at how she powers through this situation with everything she has.
General Comments
Okay so I love this book, I can honestly say I read all 9 books in a week. I just couldn't stop. I think Diana Gabaldon did an amazing job its like she actually brings you back to the times and locations of her story. It made it believable to me. It only so often books like these come around where they just hook you and drag you in. READ THIS BOOK!! you will not regret it!
Characters
I feel like I know these characters now on a personal level, they are characters that will never leave you for the rest of your life. Claire is a resilient person she's level headed and smart she deals with what happens to her very well she's very adaptable to her situations I think. All of the characters in the books have substance they really become real people to me and I love that.
World building
Its like going on an adventure in your living room. Diana brings you along into 1743 Scotland so well its like you're really there living it with Claire. Diana did an amazing job researching and bringing in historical facts into it while taking creative license and writing her story around and through that, which made it all the more believable and real feeling.
Series
overall I don't think I can give enough praise to this book series the first through the ninth and all all the novellas in between I loved them all it just expanded this world even further. each one is fresh and exciting and has new situations going for it. I think these books should be put on to your must read list asap!
These are all my personal opinions of this novel + series! I just love them so much I can't say enough good things.
**It has also become a wonderful Tv show produced by Stars. So if you wanted a little insight watch an episode ( or all ) they adapted the books beautifully
